Self Awareness Essay Self awareness is having a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions (Pathway to Happiness, n. d. ). Self awareness allows one to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them in the moment (Pathway to Happiness, n. d. ). Self awareness is an essential first step toward improving management skills. Self- awareness can improve one’s judgment and help identify opportunities for professional development and personal growth. Self-awareness helps managers identify gaps in management skills. Self-awareness also helps managers find situations in which they will be most effective. 1. Skills development – Improvement projects should begin with an assessment of the gap between the current situation and the desired situation. Having an accurate sense of who one is helps with making improvements (Wright Education, n. . ). 2. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses – Self-awareness helps one exploit their strengths and cope with weaknesses. For example, if a manager is good at seeing the big picture that surrounds the decisions, but not good at focusing on the details, the manager might benefit from consulting a colleague that is more detail oriented when making decisions (Wright Education, n. d. ). Big picture oriented decision makers and detailed oriented decision makers can produce high quality decisions 3.  Developing intuitive decision making skills – Leaders with well developed emotional self-awareness are more effective intuitive decision makers (Wright Education, n. d. ). In complex situations intuitive decision makers choose actions based on a gut feeling or a sense of what is best (Wright Education, n. d. ). Managers who are highly self- aware are better able to read their gut feelings and use them to guide decisions. 4. Motivation – Self-awareness can reveal where the problems are and indicate what can be done to improve performance.  Awareness of one’s psychological needs can increase one’s motivation by seeking rewards that are desirable such as a sense of accomplishment, additional responsibility, and an opportunity to help others or a flexible work schedule (Wright Education, n. d. ) To improve managerial skills the best place to start is self awareness. With a sense of who you are and a vision of the who you want to become, a plan for professional development can be created. Self awareness allows managers to become more motivated and manage stress, become intuitive decision makers, and lead and motivate others.

An Assessment of College Students’ Attitudes and Empathy Toward Rape Methods: The study is a descriptive cross-sectional survey implemented to assess students' attitudes toward rape and empathy toward survivors of rape. A pilot study using 30 college students with a two-week interval was used to establish reliability of the ATR and RES. Subject's birth day, month, and first three digits of their phone numbers were used as identifiers for the retest portion of the pilot study. A two-tailed t test was performed comparing test scores across the 2-week interval. Statistical analysis found a 1.0 correlation for demographic data, .91 alpha reliability coefficient for the ATR, and a .80 alpha reliability coefficient for the RES. Therefore, the ATR and RES were deemed reliable for the study. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess rape attitudes and empathy levels of college students in a selected university setting in North Texas. Sample: A total sample of 300 subjects was needed to ensure representation within a confidence interval of 95% and .05 sampling error. The sample was drawn from the following courses: from the College of Business Administration, the course "Principles of Real Estate" provided 107 subjects; from the College of Arts and Sciences, the course "U.S. History to 1865" provided 89 students; from the College of Education, "Family Life/Human Sexuality" and "Health Emergency/First Aid" were selected, providing 110 subjects. Hypotheses: 1. Students who either have known a rape survivor or have themselves been a survivor of rape, will express more rape-intolerant attitudes toward rape and greater empathy levels toward rape survivors than students who have not known a rape survivor or have been the survivor of a rape. 2. Students with female siblings will report more rape-intolerant attitudes toward rape and greater empathy toward rape survivors than students without female siblings. 3. Female students will have more rape-intolerant attitudes toward rape and greater empathy levels toward rape survivors than those of their male counterparts. 4. Students over the age of twenty-six will demonstrate more rape-intolerant attitudes and greater empathy levels toward rape survivors than the students under the age of twenty-six. Variables: The dependent variables are attitudes toward rape and empathy toward rape ... ...homosexuals. Implications: In future research, it is recommended more exploration of the parameters of men's reactions to female-initiated coercion. A major question raised by this study is how forceful does a situation have to be before men respond negatively to female sexual coercion. This could be answered in a study in which the vignettes are varied by high levels of force. It is speculated that men's responses would also be influenced by sexual outcome of the situation (e.g., oral sex or intercourse) and physical appearance of the initiator (e.g., attractive or unattractive). Because the present study indicated that both men and women anticipate high psychological harm from a same-gender advance, the dynamics of these interactions should also be investigated by further vignette research. Limitations: The major limitation of the present study is that it assessed reactions to hypothetical coercion situations, not actual incidents. Whether victims' reactions to actual coercion will parallel findings of this study can only be determined by more research. However, the present study may serve as a source of ideas, variables and proposed relationships for future investigations.

Which leads to the point where millions of dollars were needed to rebuild a nd remake all that was lost. Especially in places like New Jersey where the hurricane hit the hardest. After a disaster like hurricane Sandy struck people ally struggled to get back on their feet because many of them were unemployed after the hurricane due to corporate offices being torn down by the sheer force of Mother Nature. Tax payers cannot possibly be happy about this occurrence across the east coast of not just U.S. A but Canada also. Finally, the people who experienced this first hand were forced to cope with the changes hurricane Sandy threw at them. Families were torn apart in all the chaos as loved ones succumbed to death. Each one raising the death toile to at least 40 people. Lucky ones had to wait in multi-mile long lines just to et gas for their necessities. When the flood hit (which happened in many states) people were forced to escape their houses and be rescued on the roof of their submerged house.Post-disaster teams were dispatched to clean up the debris that hur ricane Sandy left behind. Tragedy struck families making this hurricane a superstore. Because of the physical, social, and economic impact on the lives of easterners during this time of chaos, hurricane Sandy had the greatest impact on the lifestyles of people in the eye of the hurricane. Loss of Innocence in Heart of Darkness Heart of Darkness is Joseph Conrads tale of one mans journey, both mental and physical, into the depths of the wild African jungle and the human soul. The seaman, Marlow, tells his crew a startling tale of a man named Kurtz and his expedition that culminates in his encounter with the voice of Kurtz and ultimately, Kurtzs demise. The passage from Part I of the novel consists of Marlows initial encounter with the natives of this place of immense darkness, directly relating to Conrads use of imagery and metaphor to illustrate to the reader the contrast between light and dark. The passage, although occurring earlier on in the novel, is interspersed with Marlows two opposing†¦show more content†¦Clearly one for variance, Conrad gives numerous different descriptive adjectives for the jungle inhabitants, while still keeping with the theme of darkness and relating them all back to another, creating a pattern of descriptions that also correspond to his depiction of the en vironment around Marlow. The trees, for example, create a shady spot that gives cover and solace to what Marlow refers to as dark things (24). The people and the land seem to intertwine, and it becomes difficult to discern where one ends and the other begins, since they are each an essential part of one another. The primitive descriptions lent to the people are also lent to the land, creating a common ground, which connects the two very nicely. The river leading Marlow deep into the jungle is an immense snake uncoiled, with its head in the sea, its body at rest curving afar over a vast country, and its tail lost in the depths of the land (71). However, it comes much later on in the story that Marlow begins to wise up to what is truly going on. He eventually is able to see past the propaganda and the talking up of this concept of imperialism. The structure of the novel contributes to the feel in this respect.
